FAQs

Your Zywie cardiac event monitor is a small, wearable device that records your heart's electrical activity throughout your normal daily activities. Whether your physician prescribed the ZywieNano patch for Holter monitoring, event recording, or extended cardiac event monitoring of up to 30 days, the questions below cover what to expect while wearing the monitor, how to charge and care for the sensor, and how to get your test results. The Zywie Patch is used to help your healthcare professional diagnose heart palpitations, atrial fibrillation, chest pain, and other irregular heartbeat patterns that a brief in-office ECG may miss. If your question isn't answered here, contact us online or call at 877.858.7200.

Zywie Patch

The Zywie Patch is a sticky patch that holds the small recording device against your chest while it captures every heartbeat over your monitoring period.

Can I shower with a Zywie Patch?

Yes. The Zywie Patch is water-resistant, so brief showers fit easily into your daily activities while wearing the monitor. Avoid direct water contact from excessively hot showers for extended periods, and do not submerge the patch in baths, hot tubs, or pools.

Can I work out while wearing the Zywie Patch?

Yes. You can engage in most forms of exercise while wearing the Zywie Patch, including walking, light cardio, and strength training. Please avoid activities that submerge the monitor, such as swimming or using hot tubs. Capturing your heart rhythm during physical activity is one of the most valuable parts of cardiac event monitoring, since some abnormal heart rhythms and cardiac arrhythmias only appear during exertion. Keeping your usual routine improves diagnostic yield and gives the patch a better chance to record them.

Should I change my patch adhesive every day?

No. You only need to change the patch adhesive when the sensor requires charging. The Zywie phone shows your battery percentage, and a reminder will display on the screen when the sensor battery is low and needs to be charged.

What if my Zywie patch falls off?

Yes, for domestic travel. You can fly within the United States while wearing your Zywie cardiac event monitor, and standard airport metal detectors will not affect the device. If requested by security, you may remove the patch temporarily and reapply it afterward.

International travel is not permitted while wearing a Zywie Patch. If your trip is international, talk to your healthcare professional about timing your monitoring period around your travel dates.

Can I travel while wearing a Zywie Patch?

Yes. Certain procedures and equipment can interfere with the patch's recording or damage the device. Avoid the following while wearing the Zywie Patch:

Magnetic fields: Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), MRI technician work, or any job that exposes you to a large magnetic field

Neuromuscular stimulators: brain stimulators, neurostimulators, spinal stimulators, and TENS units

Defibrillation or cardioversion procedures

Common household items, including microwave ovens, metal detectors, and electric blankets, are safe to use during your monitoring period and will not interfere with this type of monitor. If you're unsure about a specific test, treatment, or device, check with your healthcare professional first.

How do I know the Zywie Patch is working?

You can confirm the cardiac monitor is recording by checking the Zywie phone. When "Study in Progress" is displayed on the screen, the device is actively capturing your heart's electrical activity. If you feel a symptom like heart palpitations, chest pain, or an abnormal heartbeat while wearing the patch, log the event in the Zywie phone so your provider can match it to your recorded heart rhythm.

How do I remove my Zywie Patch?

To remove the Zywie Patch without skin irritation:

1. Take the Adhesive Removal Pad from your kit. Place the pad at the edge of the adhesive and gently pull while sliding the pad along the adhesive line. This helps release the patch without irritating your skin.

2. After removal, use the same pad to wipe away any remaining adhesive residue from your chest.

3. For ZywieNano: peel the rubber sensor from the adhesive using the red tab. Discard the adhesive only, and keep the ZywieNano recording device for charging or reapplying.

How do I reapply my Zywie Patch?

Before reapplying, clean and shave the area of your chest where the patch will sit. Grab a fresh adhesive from the white pouch in your kit and peel the tab labeled "1." Line up the three circles on the exposed adhesive with the rubber sensor (laying the sensor flat with the rubber side down makes alignment easier). Once the sensor is attached, peel tab "2" and stick the adhesive to your left, upper-middle chest at an inclined angle, with the hearts on the sensor pointing down. Press firmly to secure, and your study will resume automatically.

Zywie Sensor

The sensor is a small, reusable recording device that snaps into the adhesive and captures your heart's electrical signals throughout the study.

How do I return my Zywie sensor?

When your monitoring period is complete, place all contents back inside the kit and ship it to Zywie using the prepaid label provided. Make sure the phone, sensor, sensor case, and any remaining supplies are included. Only ship your kit using the shipping service listed on the label, and ask for a drop-off receipt every time you send a package back.

How do I charge my Zywie sensor?

After removing your Zywie patch, follow these steps to charge the sensor.
For ZywieNano:

1. Clean the back of the sensor with the alcohol wipes provided inside your kit.
2. Place the rubber sensor inside the white charging case.
3. Align the copper pins inside the case with the two dots on the sensor.
4. Close the case and plug it into a wall outlet. A white light means the sensor is charging.
5. Charge until the Zywie phone shows the battery is above 90% or the light on the case turns green.

Once charging is complete, reapply the sensor to your body using a fresh adhesive. Your study will continue automatically.

What should I do if I have sensitive skin?

If you have sensitive skin, your kit includes Sure Prep to help protect the skin before applying the Zywie Patch. Mild itching or skin irritation underneath the patch area is rare and usually temporary. If irritation becomes significant or persists, remove the patch and contact our Customer Care Team at 877.858.7200 for assistance.
